This project was a new home for a couple just returning from more than a decade teaching overseas in the Middle East. Having grown enamored with the courtyard home typology so common in that part of the world, they wanted something that had an inward focus while also maintaining views out. Simple concrete block was used on the exterior walls, while clear stained wood siding wraps the inner courtyard. A separated apartment was also integrated into the first floor for an elderly parent and also for potential rental income or space for their out of town guests.
